5 Day Devotional
Week of February 8 - Esther 1:1-2:4
Devotional - Day 1
Have you ever looked back on your life and noticed how seemingly random events perfectly aligned to bring you to where you are today? That job interview that led to meeting your spouse, the delayed flight that prevented an accident, or the chance encounter that changed your career path? These aren't coincidences - they're glimpses of God's invisible hand at work.
In the book of Esther, we see this divine orchestration beautifully displayed. What's fascinating is that God's name never appears in the entire book, yet His presence is unmistakable throughout every chapter. When King Ahasuerus decided to remove Queen Vashti from her position, he wasn't seeking God's will - he was protecting his ego and maintaining control. Yet God used this very human, flawed decision to position a young Jewish orphan named Esther for her divine purpose.
Sometimes God's providence is most evident when we can't see Him at all. In those moments when life feels chaotic or uncertain, when we can't understand why certain things are happening, we can trust that our loving Father is weaving together every detail of our story. He's not absent from our struggles; He's actively working through them.
The beauty of God's providence is that He doesn't need perfect circumstances or perfect people to accomplish His purposes. He can use a king's wounded pride, a young woman's courage, and even our own mistakes to bring about His good plans. Today, as you face whatever challenges or uncertainties lie ahead, remember that the same God who orchestrated Esther's story is orchestrating yours.
Today’s Bible Verse
“The Lord reigns forever; your God, O Zion, for all generations. Praise the Lord.”
- Psalm 103:1
Reflection Question
Can you identify a time in your life when what seemed like a setback or disappointment later proved to be part of God's perfect plan for your good?
Sermon Quote
What we see in Esther is what some have called the invisible hand of God when it comes to his provision over seemingly insignificant but yet interconnected events.
Prayer
Lord, help me to trust in Your invisible hand even when I cannot see or understand Your ways. Give me faith to believe that You are working all things together for my good and Your glory, even in the midst of uncertainty. Amen.
